Sedgefield Montessori was founded after years of advocacy efforts by Montessori parents and teachers in the fall of 2010, giving Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) sixth grade Montessori students the first opportunity to continue their Montessori education into the secondary years. In 2016-17, our magnet program will serve approximately 125 seventh- and eighth-graders and also Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ first class of Montessori ninth-graders, comprised of approximately 40 students.
In 2016, Sedgefield Montessori was named a Magnet School of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America. Sedgefield Montessori is accredited by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and a member of the American Montessori Society.
For the 2017-18 school year, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools plans to move the Secondary Montessori program to an independent location and to add one grade per year, until the first graduating class in 2020.
