Katie Nelson is a Charlotte native, graduating from the IB program at East Meck High School. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, with a research focus in schizophrenia and autism.
Following college, Katie took her research experience and moved to Pittsburgh to work at the University of Pittsburgh in cancer research. It was while living there that she became involved with a group of Montessori home school students and decided that she wanted to be a teacher. Katie moved back to her home town and became a high school chemistry teacher for four years in a traditional high school; however, her heart was always in Montessori.
Katie is thrilled to be joining the Sedgefield Montessori team. She is working on her Master’s of Education at UNCC and attended the Cincinnati Montessori Secondary Teacher Education Program during the summer of 2016.
Katie is married and has two miniature schnauzer dog babies named Gatsby and Isla.
