This week, the Sedgefield Montessori community welcomed Montessori parents and longtime PTO volunteers Doug Sheridan and Cyndi Klein to our faculty! Doug will be stepping into Ms. Katie’s shoes as her full-time sub while she is on maternity leave and will eventually transition into a full-time teacher. Cyndi is taking the reins as our full-time Montessori teacher assistant.

Cyndi was introduced to Montessori when her oldest daughter started at Park Road Montessori eight years ago. After resigning from the banking world to “stay at home” with her two daughters, Danielle and Marlee, she started volunteering and substituting at the girls’ pre-school, eventually subbing for CMS, which then turned into a teaching assistant position at Park Road Montessori.

Doug and his wife, Trish (our PTO elementary liaisons chair and member of the CMS Montessori Parent Advisory Group), have four children, including Sedgefield Freshman Zayna; Isaac, a senior at East Meck IB; Grayden, in Lower El at Chantilly Montessori; and Evan, future Chantilly student. Doug’s family was introduced to Montessori through a church education program, and Doug was certified to teach in this Montessori environment by Park Road teacher, Anna Hurdle. Sending their first child to Chantilly Montessori the year it opened began Doug’s family’s public Montessori education journey that continues to grow.

It’s families like these that makes Secondary Montessori so amazing, and we are grateful to have them educating our students. Next time you see Cyndi and Doug, make sure you thank them for all they do.
