Thanks to those who came out to the October 13 CMS board meeting to show their support for secondary Montessori! As you can see, the room was packed to the gills with advocates!
We had four parents speak supporting a full secondary Montessori, and based on comments made by board members, we are hopeful they will vote on November 10 in favor of expansion of the current program to 9th grade at Sedgefield Middle School in 2016-17. Read or listen to “CMS Superintendent Ann Clark Recommends Adding Magnet Programs” on WFAE. Check out the full meeting here.
Remember those parents who came before us who fought for public Montessori over two decades ago. We owe it to them and our children to build upon the foundation they laid by supporting and advocating for the future of secondary Montessori. The CMS board will host a public forum on demographics, student assignment and the community’s role at 4 p.m. at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church (3400 Beatties Ford Road). The regular board meeting will be held at the church starting at 7:30 p.m.
Until the November 10 vote, we still need to let our voices be heard. If you haven’t already done so, please contact your representatives. Use this guide on how to contact your school board rep to express your support. These at-large school board members represent the entire district and should be included in your communications:
